10 Ways to De-Stress

Updated: Apr 21, 2019

Life can get really busy, humdrum, worrisome and unpredictable. Luckily there are some good tips to help you De-Stress!

Stress is, unfortunately, a normal state of being in the American culture. However, I don't think the severity of it is often discussed. We spend a lot of our lives overworking, reaching and striving towards goals and encountering what usually seems like "happenstance" negative situations. Luckily, there are some daily rituals you can implement to improve your mental wellbeing and reduce stress.

“It is not the load that breaks you down. It is the way you carry it”

1. Positive Affirmations- Some may think this is a silly or ineffective way to improve mental wellbeing but in my experience, it has done wonders. P.S You may feel like you are saying things you don't (at the time) believe yourself. However, the belief does not always have to be there, just the will to change your thoughts.

2. Limit screen time and conversations - In the world of social media, we are constantly comparing ourselves to others and seeing life through curated lenses. Take time away to center yourself before hopping back on social media for solace.

3. Practice Yoga - (There are countless apps and articles to guide you if you can't afford a yoga membership)

4. Write it down - Journaling can be extremely effective especially if you don't have anyone to talk to. It creates a space to be uncensored and uninhibited with your thoughts.

5. Exercise- Go for a walk- Have a 5 minute Dance Party! - Just getting up and moving will take layers off of your shoulders and you may even forget why you were stressed in the first place!

6. Laugh- "Laughter is medicine. Make sure you get a daily dose."

7. Meditation- This will allow your thoughts to flow freely, be fully present and later provide clarity on how to proceed.

8. Spend time with family and friends who truly care about you and appreciate you for who you are. Nothing more, nothing less.

9. Solutions- Do inventory on your life. Figure out what areas of your life are burdening you and strategize to find a solution.

10. Take a nap or a goodnight's sleep. :-) - Sleep plays a big role in our moods and a disciplined sleep schedule could do wonders for your overall wellbeing.

P.S If the issue persists, consider changing up your diet for a week to healthier options.
